The pandemic lasted from March 1918

1918 flu pandemic (commonly called the Spanish flu) was a pandemic of influenza that spreads to almost everywhere in the world. He was particularly virulent because of the deadly influenza A virus of H1N1 subtype. Historical and epidemiological data are insufficient to identify the geographical origin of the virus. Most of the victims were young healthy adults, in contrast to most influenza outbreaks, affecting mainly the young, elderly or debilitated patients. Flu pandemic is also access to a sudden epidemic of lethargic encephalitis in 1920.

Pandemic lasted from March 1918 to June 1920, is also more distant from the Arctic and the Pacific Islands. It is estimated that around 50-100 million people were killed in the world or the approximate equivalent of one third of the population of Europe. An estimated 500 million people, one third of the world population (about 1.6 billion euros per year) were infected.

Scientists have used frozen tissue samples of victims of the virus to replicate the study. As the situation is of utmost virulence has been a controversy about the wisdom of this research. Among the conclusions of this study is that the virus kills by the storm of cytokines (and excessive immune system), which explains its unusually serious and focused on the age profile of its victims. Strong immune systems of young adults with the body, while the lowest in the immune system of children and middle-aged adults caused fewer deaths.
